My dad and I got to my apartment yesterday afternoon after the scariest drive of my life. The Polar Vortex (not to be confused with winter wonderland) has arrived with almost a foot of snow and negative temps in central Indiana–down to -40 with the windchill today! Basically everywhere and everything is closed, including Purdue and I-65, so we hung out allll day in my little apartment.
Here is “a day in the life”, snow day with your dad edition.
9:00am-10:29am: Wake up, eat peanut butter oatmeal, drink pot of coffee #1, start unpacking from winter break. Thank Dad as he cleans my kitchen and organizes everything in sight. Watch the news intermittently.
10:30am-10:50am: Put on another layer of clothing, thank Dad for blocking my windowsills with rolled up towels, watch a press conference with the mayor of Indianapolis about the weather. Look out the window. Agree with the mayor. Feel thankful that we have power.
10:50-11:10am: Plan an indoor workout, clear out floor space, stretch. Foam roll and cry because it hurts.
11:10-12:30pm: Work out (I was in my room and he was in the living room due to minimal floor space). Stop every 10 minutes to ditch a layer of clothing and turn down the thermostat.
His is blue, mine is pink.
12:30-1:30pm: Shower, put on 10 more layers including both running tights and yoga pants, turn thermostat back up.
1:30-2:30pm: Eat lunch and play cards (just like at home!) while watching a history channel show about highways. Learn that the interstate system was created by Eisenhower. Lose the card game.
2:30-2:40pm: Add more layers and venture outside. Throw a mug of boiling water in the air per Ryan’s suggestion and watch it vaporize mid-air (so cool!). Experience what it feels like when your noise hairs freeze. Pry open Dad’s car frozen car door to retrieve a bag of cheese-flavored pretzel nibblers.
2:40-6:00pm: Be thankful for heat. Watch 3 episodes of Prison Break on Netflix with Dad. Add a blanket layer. Drink pot of coffee #2.
6:00-6:30pm: Concoct chicken soup. Try the soup, then eat cereal.
Soup and blankets
6:30-7:30pm: Talk to Bre, read blogs, talk to Ryan. Get excited for Ryan to visit next weekend.
7:30-8:00pm: Watch Jeopardy and fail at questions.
8:00-8:45pm: Watch Once Upon a Time on Netflix with Dad. Wonder if he is sleeping. Consider pot of coffee #3 and decide against it.
8:45-tbd pm: Watch BCS football championship. Ask what BCS stands for. Blog.
Everything is cancelled tomorrow too, so here’s to a repeat schedule…
What’s your weather like?
